Rara Lake, they called it, swarga ko apsara, meaning beauty queen of heaven, because it’s the most beautiful place. It converts its color according to sunlight. Rara Lake is largest in Nepal with area of 10.8sq at the altitude of 2990m from the sea level.
How to reach Rara Lake
There are many option to reach Rara Lake, we have only two option for you. First option is take a private car and reach close to Rara Lake. Other option is take Kathmandu-Nepalgunj flight and from Nepalgunj-Talcha Airport or do the same with your return, or Kathmandu-Surkhet, Surkhet-Talcha depending on the availability of the flight.
Vicinity attraction
Rara Lake is located west north in Nepal and there is a seasonal flight from Nepalgunj Airport to Talcha Airport. Rara Lake is protected by Rara National Park and is the habitat of animals like Wild Boar, Himalayan Thar, Leopard, and Himalayan Black bear, Ghoral are found in vicinity. Its forest is filled with blue pine, black juniper, Himalayan spruce, Oak, Himalayan Cypress.
Itinerary of option 1,
- Kathmandu to Surkhet, a day ride in car,
- Surkhet to Kalikot, Manma, a day ride in car, 249km,
- Kalikot to Rara,
- Sightseeing and resting in Rara Lake,
- Rara Lake to Kalikot,
- Kalikot to Surkhet,
- Surkhet to Kathmandu,
Itinerary of option 1, Trekking
Day 1, Take a first flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and Nepalgunj to Jumla, as soon as we land in Jumla we will hike toward Chhere Chaur, we will stay here.
Day 2, ChhereChour to Chautha, we hike up and down, and through the village, it is around 7 hours walk and we will stay in Chautha. Chautha height is 2807m.
Day 3, Chautha to Jhyari,
Day 4, Jhyari to Rara Lake,
Walking through the jungles and wilderness, we will arrive in Rara Lake, queen of lakes. From the ridge we will see the beautiful mountain all around and the snowcapped Himalayas. Mountains and jungles and the lake in the middle is precious. We set up the camp in ideal place, or stay in hotel. Explore the lake in boating.
Day 5, Excursion around the Rara Lake, climb to Chuchemara hilltop which is 4090m in height. It is 2 hours going up and one hour coming down. This day is special for all. It is good to be there. Return to camp and rest.
Day 6, Rara to Talcha, Talcha to Nepalgunj and Kathmandu,
Itinerary of option 3,
Day 1, Kathmandu-Nepalgunj by flight.
Day 2, Nepalgunj-Talcha by flight, and walk three hours, reach Rara Lake.
Day 3, Excursion Sightseeing in Rara Lake.
Day 4, Walk three hours and reach Talcha Airport and fly to Nepalgunj.
Day 5, Nepalgunj-Kathmandu by flight.

FYI, we don’t arrange travel insurance. Your package is exclusive of expenses that might occur during the trip, like immediate rescue, treatment cost, air ambulance, extra days and expenses due to bad situation.
